Harvested from the highlands of Adjara, OKRO honey is wild, raw, and 100% organic. This rare honey comes from traditional Jara hives — hollowed logs placed high in trees, allowing bees to live as they would in nature.
Directly sourced from small local beekeepers, each jar is a taste of ancient beekeeping heritage and untouched wilderness.
An ancient Georgian beekeeping tradition
Jara is a traditional beehive that has been used since ancient times in Georgia. Local folktales speak of ancient inhabitants who discovered bees living in tree hollows, which they called "the bee tree."
Over time, beekeepers learned to replicate these natural homes. They collected swarms of wild bees and settled them into hollowed wooden logs, then placed them high up in trees to protect them from bears. These logs became known as Jara.
While modern frame beehives have largely replaced traditional methods since the 19th century, there are still a few places in Western Georgia — particularly in the highlands of Adjara — where Jara hives continue to produce this exceptional wild honey.
Jara hives are home to the renowned Caucasian Mountain Grey Bee (Apis Mellifera Caucasica). With the longest tongue of any honeybee, these bees can reach nectar that others cannot, producing honey with exceptional depth and complexity.
